The Warhawk
Wheelchair Basketball Team had its inaugural
season more than 25 years ago competing as a
member of the Lake Michigan Conference. The
University of Wisconsin-Whitewater participated
in the first National Intercollegiate Wheelchair
Basketball Tournament (NIWBT) and was a founding
member of the Central Intercollegiate Conference
(CIC). The Warhawks have won the NIWBT three
times, the most recent victory coming in 1999.Current Warhawk players,
coaches and alumni have made significant
contributions to wheelchair basketball on the
national and international levels. Service for
students who happen to have disabilities have
been available on the University of
Wisconsin-Whitewater campus for more than 30
years.
Serving nearly 500
students, many of whom have severe and multiple
impairments, the UWW campus budget commitment
exceeds $1 million annually. Students are served
directly by a multi-disciplinary professional
staff of eleven, and more than 300 part-time
student workers are hired each year.
